Chapter History

Our Chapter at a glance

The Omicron-Tau chapter of Kappa Sigma was first established as a colony in 2005 at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, driven by the efforts of founding brother Michael Day and led by the colony’s first president, Adam Shaw. Just two years later, in 2007, Omicron-Tau earned its official charter—marking the beginning of a growing legacy of leadership, brotherhood, and service.

In its early years, the chapter focused on building a strong internal culture and gaining a foothold on campus. But it was in Fall 2016 that Omicron-Tau truly turned a corner. That semester, the chapter recruited 31 new members—Omicron-Tau’s highest rush class nationwide at the time. This marked a transformational moment, setting Omicron-Tau on a path of consistent growth and positioning it as one of the largest and most visible fraternities on campus. Since then, the chapter has remained either the largest or second-largest fraternity at the university.

The chapter’s brand has always centered on “brotherhood first”, with a focus on personal connection, mutual support, and long-term commitment among its members. That identity is reflected in its signature events, such as Fright Night, an annual Halloween tradition that began in 2017 and has grown into a major community gathering and recruitment event.

In 2020, alumni leaders founded the OT Godfather Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the academic and personal development of Omicron-Tau brothers. The foundation aims to fund scholarships, leadership programs, and long-term goals like building a dedicated chapter house. Over the next decade, the chapter’s vision includes growing to a consistent membership of 50 brothers, offering annual in-house scholarships, and breaking ground on a permanent home for Omicron-Tau.

What began as a small group of driven students has become a thriving, values-driven chapter that continues to grow in size, strength, and impact. With the support of dedicated alumni and the continued commitment of its active brothers, the Omicron-Tau chapter of Kappa Sigma is building a legacy that will endure for generations.
